As an Esoteric Astrologer, Saturn has always seemed to me to be the most important player in our Astrological Charts and in the heavens above. This is because he is our Teacher and our Disciplinarian. He is not the friendly “I’ll give you straight A’s because you come to class and usually do your homework” kind-of-teacher, he is a hard task master and he demands complete discipline, focus and authenticity from us. The greatest contradiction we often have to face in life is between what Saturn is trying to teach us, and what Society tells us we should do and be.
Saturn says; “honour yourself”, “look after your own needs”, “practise self-discipline” and “always be responsible for yourself in every way”.
Society says; “honour the needs of others above your own”, “other people need your discipline and attention more than you need it”, and “things that happen in your life are everyone else’s fault”.
So, we can find ourselves in a constant predicament about what to do for YOU and your soul’s journey, and what to do to fit in and be accepted and successful within the Society you live in.
From an esoterical astrology perspective, we do not believe you are an adult until you are between 28 and 30 years of age as this is the length of time it takes for Saturn to transit each of the 12 Houses in your Birth Chart, and come back to his original position at the time you were born. This is called your Saturn Return. Therefore, at approximately the age of 29 something major will happen in your life to wake you up to the fact that your life and your happiness is your responsibility, and its time to act upon this. After this time, Saturn continues on to do another cycle of your 12 Houses and so at around the age of 58 you experience your second Saturn Return, and theoretically by then you should have learned most of your life lessons, and so Saturn will bring you your greatest life rewards.
Where Saturn sits in your Natal Chart is where you come into this lifetime to face your greatest fears and biggest life lessons. The reincarnating soul knows and understands that the only way to evolve and grow is to face what you fear. There is incredible power in facing what you fear as once you do this, it no longer has any power over you and this in turn allows you to stand taller, be more self-confident, and also to begin to truly understand the importance of being responsible for your own journey.
For instance, if you are born with Saturn sitting in Leo, in your 1st House of Self, your greatest fear will be that no-one notices you, admires you or respects you. All you want, with this placement, is to be recognised, and so until you learn to face your fears here, you will go through life sacrificing yourself for others and constantly seeking the approval and recognition of the world, so as you can feel good about yourself. You could, worst case scenario, be constantly demanding attention, and even doing outrageous things to be noticed, all of which are just feeing the Ego. The lesson here is for you to realise that you do have so much to offer – just as you are, and that you don’t need glory, recognition and kudos from others to know and respect this about yourself.
Saturn may be our harshest task master, but he also brings us our greatest life rewards too. You do the work and honour who you truly are, and Saturn will support you every step of the way. Blessings xox
