On 20 January the Sun moves out of the serious, conservative and grounded energy of Capricorn and into the quirky, alternative and innovative energy of Aquarius. This is our first taste of Aquarius season, with Pluto here also, along for the ride!
Ever since Pluto shifted into Aquarius back in November 2024, we have felt the subtle but definite move in consciousness, and now that we are in Aquarius season its time to really embrace, nurture and celebrate this energy.
So, here we are at the beginning of 2025 – a whole new year and a whole new adventure and what better energy to have at our disposal than the forward thinking and ingenious energy of Aquarius. This is our month to not be afraid to be different, to put new ideas out there and to think outside the box when looking for our solutions. And this is a time where all you quirky Aquarians can really come into your own. We are in the Age of Aquarius and the doors for change, innovation, new ways of being and a whole new world are wide open.
As has been said earlier 2025 is going to be a BIG year. 2024 certainly gave us plenty of think about and get involved in, and now 2025 will bring us many endings and new beginnings. The endings will be the things in our lives both globally and personally, that we have now outgrown and that do not serve a positive or even useful purpose in our lives any more. Whether we like it or not, things have to end for new things to begin, and so embracing change and allowing yourself to go with what is being presented to you will be pivotal in you enjoying this year and getting the most out of it.
The first shift of 2025 was the move of the North Node out of Aries and into Pisces. The Nodes change signs every 18 months and when they make this shift, they bring new opportunities for change and also allow us to see what we have already mastered and what still requires some work from us.
We are also in the midst of a very long transit of Mars through Leo and Cancer. Mars usually takes around 6 weeks to move through a sign of the zodiac but he is currently on a very different trajectory. He moved into Cancer in September 2024 and since then has moved into Leo and then retrograded back into Cancer (where he is right now) and will move Direct in Cancer and then into Leo once again before he finally leaves these 2 signs of the zodiac in June 2025. Cancer precedes Leo in the zodiac system and so when Mars makes his way through this energy we are being asked to use our energy of empathy, understanding, intuition, creativity and compassion. We are pushed to take action that is for the greatest good of all concerned and we are very aware of our feelings and often the need to justify these. Leo energy is the energy of the extrovert; its outgoing, it embraces leadership and its full of optimism and action. So, all in all this is 9 months of see-sawing between these 2 energies – focussing on our compassion and empathy for others so we can heal and understand others, and then moving towards taking action on this and raising our vibrations.
We have started 2025 with the planet Uranus in Retrograde in Taurus and on 31 January he will move into Direct motion until 7 July 2025 when he makes his major shift out of Taurus and into Gemini. Uranus in Taurus has taught us all a lot about our connection with Mother Earth. During this transit which started in May 2018, Uranus – Mr Curveball – has shown us many changes and made us aware of many shortcomings we have in relation to our planet, how we treat her and how much she supports us. Our sense of security has been challenged and many have met this challenge with innovation and forethought whilst others have panicked and protested at the losses and changes that have occurred. Taurus energy is very driven by money and security and while Uranus has been transiting through this sign of the zodiac, we have seen many shifts and changes in worldwide security and finances as well as within our own.
The mighty planet of manifestation, growth and abundance, Jupiter, is also on the move this year out of Gemini and into Cancer, but not until June. We started 2025 with Jupiter in Retrograde in Gemini which was a huge relief for many. Jupiter expands on everything he touches and so when he is in the energy of Gemini it’s like he is turbo-charging everything about this sign which has felt like quite the ride to date! As we know Gemini is already a super-busy energy and so when Jupiter adds his energy to it, things can get a bit crazy – which I know many of you have found over the last 6 months. On 5 February Jupiter moves into Direct motion and we will have a few months of more extensive and expansive busyness in our lives to deal with.
When Jupiter is in Direct motion, he is really amping up the energy of the sign of the zodiac he is in. My belief is that one of the main things that all this busyness and abundance of opportunities and experiences is teaching us is discernment. We cannot do everything or be everything all the time – we only have so much energy and so many hours in the day. Jupiter in Gemini wants to load our plates up, and we have had around 6 months of this already, and so while he has been in Retrograde, we have had an opportunity to go within and process and evaluate all that has been going on, so we can align ourselves with what is right for us, and NOT what is right for everyone else.
Once he moves into Direct motion in early February, things will get a bit crazy again, BUT you now know what to do with this energy. You can take all that is being asked of you and/or presented to you and you can act on what is aligned with you and you can let go of what is not. This powerful Retrograde has been a good reminder to us all that quality is more important than quantity and that seeing things through to fruition is a lot better than leaving things half-done, and the importance of aligning our thoughts, words and actions into one. We are learning to put more emphasis on what works for us, and what is important to us, rather than trying to do it all.
Aquarius Season is a special time of year, a time when we are encouraged to be exactly who we truly are, and a time where sharing your ideas, concepts and solutions can and will be met with excitement, understanding and approval. Its our chance to really play with what we are capable of, but may have not have the courage to explore before. Its our time to bring to the foreground the ideas and fantasies you have put on the back burner to date, and its time to embrace anything and everything that is alternative or outside the box about YOU.
When we change as individuals the world changes on mass. New Zealand is an Aquarian and therefore all New Zealanders and this country have a role to play in the Great Awakening and slowly but surely this will become more and more apparent and more and more obvious. We must all face the fear and do it anyway – it’s the only way forward and we should never fear change.
