The planet of communication and mischief, Mercury, moved into his first Retrograde period for 2022 recently. Usually, Mercury turns Retrograde 3 times per year but this year he is going to move into Retrograde motion 4 times! And on top of this, for the first 3 Retrogrades, he starts this transit in an Earth sign but finishes it in an Air sign. This to me feels very significant and I will explain why. Mercury Retrograde is all about going within to re-assess, re-visit, re-look and re-evaluate all that we are working on, planning and wanting to put into action. It is a very valuable opportunity that we are given 3 times every year to stop our forward actions and motion, to really look carefully at what we are doing and whether we are doing it the right way, or even whether we should be doing it at all. So, when this period of re-evaluation is in an Earth sign (currently Capricorn), we are looking at the solidity of our plans and purpose and whether they are built on concrete foundations and are workable, and basically whether they hold all the values and virtues that we will need to turn them into something real and sustainable. Therefore, we get to spend the first part of this Retrograde analysing our plans and actions, but then as Mercury moves into an Air sign (Aquarius) we get to take those revisions we have done and add a level of creativity, inventiveness and alternativeness as well as our own special unique energy. Better still, we can use the combination of these energies to look at how aligned our goals and practises are with the Universe and whether there is room there as well to bring in what is for the highest good of this planet as well. Under this influence, amazing solutions to very old problems can be formulated and once Mercury turns Direct on 4 February, we can take action on all of this. I feel that this will be of great use to everyone consciously and subconsciously, as whatever you are doing you will feel the pull to look at it differently or from a more creative or humanitarian perspective. This also encourages us to use our intuition and connect with our Higher Selves.
Today we have a Full Moon in Cancer. The first Full Moon of 2022 occurs while Venus is in Retrograde in the opposite sign of Capricorn. This opposition allows and encourages us to look at the most important love relationship we have in this lifetime, and that is the love relationship you have with your own beautiful self. Venus is currently asking us all to look deeply into the structures and beliefs of our closest relationships so we can be sure that they are serving us positively and honouring us in every way, which naturally brings up how we treat ourselves. You cannot expect to have a healthy, loving and respectful relationship with another person if you cannot have one with yourself. So, at the time of this Full Moon pushing the buttons of Capricorn in Venus, things that are dysfunctional and/or out of date will come to the surface to be healed and so be aware of old triggers as well as any need you may instantly feel when triggered, to project your hurts on to others. The Moon will also be opposing Pluto in Capricorn who is still holding his power over us in many ways. This opposition brings up the issues of what you want and need personally versus what the world wants and needs from you, and so this may come to a head in your life if you are confronted by those at this time who wish you to conform to their ways of doing things and being. All this energy can bring up a lot of tension and defensiveness, the more you can step away from it and just observe what it is bringing up in you emotionally, the more you will be able to see where it is important for you to stick to what is right for you but not in a defensive or aggressive manner, but more in a way that makes you feel supported. The need for and importance of believing in yourself and what you know and feel to be true will be very strong at this Full Moon and your intuition will be heightened in every way. Therefore, what you FEEL is REAL!
We can use this Full Moon aligned with Mercury and Venus in Retrograde to really look to how we treat ourselves and communicate with ourselves as well. This is a very good time for you to look at how you speak to yourself, and whether the words you use are supportive, loving and positive or are they full of blame, judgement, anger and negativity? Many of the thoughts you have about yourself you would not dream of saying or putting onto another person, yet you believe it’s okay to talk to yourself like that? NO, it is not! So, use this beautiful Full Moon that represents mothering, nurturing and compassion to be kind to yourself and to set up a new regime (Venus in Capricorn) of caring, respect and sustainability that can change the relationship you have with our inner world. And use the energy of Mercury, also in Capricorn, to create solid structures and beliefs based on what is for your highest good and wellbeing, rather than anything based on negativity or on thinking that you are not good enough. Ask the Full Moon to illuminate all that needs to be released, and then let it go.
The planet of change and independence, Uranus, is about to turn Direct after 5 months in Retrograde motion in the sign of Taurus. The transits of Uranus are never smooth and uneventful as is the nature of this planet. Uranus is the mover and shaker of the Cosmos, and it is his job to keep us on our toes and to shake things up regularly for us, so as to make sure we are not staying stuck in our comfort zones, and that we are always ready and willing to embrace change and all that the Universe has to offer us. Uranus’s Retrograde phase has allowed us to look deeply into who we truly are – to the nuts and bolts of what makes up our natural thinking and needs and abilities to do things independently and in our own way. This has been a very strengthening transit as it has allowed us to see and discover inner strengths and parts of ourselves that we can rely on and believe in as we have made better friends with them and seen their purpose in our lives. For many of you, there may have been sudden and unexpected awarenesses of things that you were not aware of before that you are good at. Or the realisation that being independent is something that is actually quite comfortable for you and that can lead you to know and see so much more within yourself that can be shared and expanded upon in a positive way. As Uranus turns Direct, we can put in place new ways of being and doing things that honour our skills and enhance our confidence to use them.
2022 is the year to take action. 2020 and 2021 saw us stuck in flight, fight or freeze mode and it is now time to snap out of that and move forward. In 2022 we have the support and determination to find our solutions, to create a new world and to move away from all the division and friction that we have been buried under. 2022 will bring us many opportunities to stand on our own two feet, to find our tribes and to work on and instigate the solutions and ways of being that can move humanity forward to a new sustainable and loving world.
